MAHA Urges Investment in Regenerative and Organic Agriculture to Help Solve America’s Chronic Disease Epidemic

Letter from 500 MAHA Movement Leaders and Organization Calls on MAHA Commission to Take Urgent Action Against Harmful Pesticides and oppose immunity for Pesticide Companies

Washington D.C., July 21st, 2025 — Moms Across America, United We Eat, and more than 500 MAHA grassroots leaders and organizations have sent a sign-on letter addressed to Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission, urging immediate and decisive action against toxic pesticides threatening public health. The letter also strongly opposes Congressional efforts to shield pesticide manufacturers from liability.

Section 453 of the House Appropriations Bill, scheduled for a vote on Tuesday, July 22nd, contains language that will essentially grant any foreign or domestic company immunity from liability for its pesticides and products – including chemicals known to cause cancer (glyphosate), Parkinson’s disease (Paraquat)

“Rather than reformulating their products, manufacturers are spending tens of millions on lobbyists and lawyers to manipulate our elected officials to change the laws of our established democracy to prevent lawsuits and protect their profits,” said Zen Honeycut, founder of Moms Across America, and a key MAHA movement leader.  “If House Republicans fail to remove this dangerous and unjust provision from the bill, they risk losing support from a very influential MAHA voter block in the mid-term elections.”

The letter comes amid escalating concerns that the Administration is rejecting the urgent demands from the MAHA movement to place greater restrictions on the use of toxic, health-harming pesticides. Notably, Kyle Kunkler, former top lobbyist for the American Soybean Association and an advocate for Monsanto’s glyphosate-based Roundup, has been appointed to oversee pesticides in the EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention.

“Our children are being systematically poisoned, our government’s safety assessments have failed to protect American families,” said Dave Murphy, founder of United We Eat and a former fundraiser for the Kennedy campaign. “The EPA relies on industry funded science for their safety assessments and placing a pesticide industry lobbyist in charge of determining the safety of pesticides is both dangerous and unacceptable.”

A two-year peer-reviewed study, conducted by some of the world’s leading cancer researchers and toxicologists, cited in the letter, reveals glyphosate exposure at levels deemed safe by regulators is linked to 6 of the top 10 most common cancers globally. The study further demonstrates glyphosate’s role as an endocrine disruptor, affecting fertility and reproductive outcomes.

The letter outlines comprehensive recommendations for the MAHA Commission:

  • Immediate bans on pesticides already prohibited internationally, including glyphosate, atrazine, paraquat, and neonicotinoids.
  • Closure of EPA loopholes enabling harmful pesticides to remain in use without proper safety reviews.
  • Opposition to federal pesticide preemption and efforts to shield pesticide manufacturers from liability.
  • Robust investment in organic and regenerative agriculture, transitioning taxpayer funds away from pesticide-dependent systems.
  • Enhanced training through USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service to aid farmers in reducing pesticide use.
  • Align U.S. pesticide residue standards with stricter international guidelines to safeguard public health.

The letter emphasizes the intertwined crises of chronic illness, soil degradation, and harm to ecosystems resulting from decades of government-supported pesticide dependency across multiple supply chains.

“If we truly aim to Make America Healthy Again, we must address the poisoning of our food, air, water, and most importantly, our children,” said Elizabeth Kucinich, a food and agriculture expert who is active in the MAHA movement  “It’s time to prioritize health over corporate profits and give our children a clean, safe, and sustainable future.”

This letter and the Pesticide Industry’s push for legal immunity come amidst Senator Booker’s new Pesticide Injury Accountability Act, which has robust backing from nearly every major Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) organization and upholds the right to hold pesticide companies accountable.

The legislation amends the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) to establish a clear federal right of action for anyone harmed by toxic pesticides like glyphosate. It directly addresses industry-backed liability shields recently enacted by Republicans, including Georgia and North Dakota, ensuring local immunity laws don’t deny injured citizens justice.  MAHA leaders are currently seeking co-sponsorship from Republican offices.

The sign-on letter urges the MAHA Commission to adopt these recommendations immediately, protecting American families from ongoing pesticide exposure and restoring public trust in food safety.
