USDA and HHS Fund School Kitchens, Farm-to-School Grants and Nutrition Research

USDA and HHS launched Harvest to Hallways, including $50 million for school kitchen infrastructure, up to $25 million in additional Farm to School grants and $30 million for school-meal nutrition research. USDA will also promote an existing option that reimburses schools for locally produced food.

Kitchen equipment and local-procurement support can help schools cook from scratch while creating dependable markets for regional farmers. But the package is far smaller than the more than $1 billion in local-food purchasing programs USDA canceled in 2025, so it does not restore the previous scale of support.
